How to Create a Custom QR Code on Android (Colours, Patterns, Your Style)

Most QR generators live on websites that ask for an email, add a logo you did not want, and sometimes expire the code after a trial. Your phone can make a better one in ten seconds, and keep the content to itself.

What a QR code can hold

  • A website link or a deep link into an app.
  • Plain text: a message, a code, a serial number.
  • A phone number that opens the dialler, or an SMS with the text filled in.
  • Wi-Fi credentials that connect a phone automatically.
  • A contact card with name, number and email.

Create and style one on the phone

QR Actions generates codes for all of those types and lets you customise the result: the colour of the modules and the background, the dot pattern and the corner style, so a code can match a poster, a business card or your home screen. Everything is generated on the device.

  1. Open QR Actions and tap Create.
  2. Choose the type and enter the content.
  3. Pick colours and a pattern. Keep dark modules on a light background for reliable scanning.
  4. Save it, share the image, or add it to the home screen as a widget.

Design rules that keep it scannable

  • Contrast first. Dark code, light background. Avoid light-on-dark unless you test it.
  • Leave a quiet zone, an empty margin around the code.
  • Shorter content means a simpler code. Use a short link for long URLs.
  • Test with two phones before printing anything.

Why generate on the device

Online generators often route scans through their own short links so they can count or sell the data, and some stop working when a subscription ends. A code made on your phone points directly to your content, works forever, and the content never leaves the device.

Frequently asked questions

Do custom colours break scanning?

Not if the contrast stays high. Mid-tone combinations and very light module colours are the ones to avoid.

Can I edit a code after creating it?

Yes. Saved codes stay in the app and can be restyled or updated and re-added to the home screen.

Do the codes expire?

No. A code generated on the device is static and works as long as its content, such as the website, exists.
