How to Put a QR Code on Your Android Home Screen (UPI, Wi-Fi, Profiles)
A customer is waiting, the shop is noisy, and you are tapping through a payment app looking for the "show QR" button. The code you show ten times a day deserves a place on the home screen.
Why QR codes are buried
Payment, Wi-Fi and social apps each keep their QR code a few taps deep, behind a login or a loading screen. Android has no built-in way to pin a code, and a screenshot in the gallery is just another thing to search for.
Pin a code as a widget
QR Actions creates home screen widgets from any QR code: your UPI payment code, your Wi-Fi network, a social profile, a website, a contact card or plain text. The widget shows the code at full size on the home screen, so it is visible the moment the phone unlocks.
- Install QR Actions and either scan your existing code (for example the UPI code from your payment app) or create one.
- Customise it if you like: colours, patterns and a style that matches your wallpaper.
- Tap Add to home screen, or long-press the home screen, open Widgets, and drop a QR Actions widget.
- Resize the widget so it scans comfortably from arm's length.
The code's content stays on your phone; nothing is uploaded to generate or display it.
Codes worth pinning
- UPI or bank payment QR for a shop counter or a side hustle.
- Home Wi-Fi for guests; see sharing Wi-Fi with a QR code.
- Instagram, WhatsApp or LinkedIn profile for networking.
- Contact card so people can save your number in one scan.
- Menu or catalogue link for a small business.
Tips for a code that scans first time
Keep good contrast between the code and its background, give the widget some empty space around it, and avoid very small widgets on a busy wallpaper. If you customise the pattern, test it with another phone before relying on it in front of customers.
Frequently asked questions
Does the widget work on the lock screen?
Android home screen widgets appear after unlocking. Put the widget on your first home page so it is one swipe away.
Can I pin more than one code?
Yes. Each code can be its own widget, and you can keep a payment code on one page and a Wi-Fi code on another.
Is my UPI code safe to show as a widget?
A payment QR only lets people pay you, never take money from you. Showing it is as safe as the printed code at a shop counter.
