How to Lock Your Gallery App on Android
Hand someone your phone to show them one photo and they swipe to the next. The gallery is where everything personal ends up, and it opens with a single tap. It deserves a lock as much as your banking app.
What the gallery apps offer
Google Photos has a Locked Folder for individual photos, and Samsung Gallery can hide albums into Secure Folder. Both protect what you move, not the gallery as a whole; the latest photos, screenshots and WhatsApp images are still one tap away.
Lock the whole gallery app
With Picture AppLock you lock the gallery app itself: Google Photos, Samsung Gallery, Files, or whichever you use. Opening it shows your chosen photo, and only your three secret taps let it through. That protects every image in one step and leaves no visible keypad to copy.
- Set up Picture AppLock with your picture code.
- Enable the lock for Photos or Gallery, plus the Files app and any cloud gallery you use.
- Set auto-lock to immediately so the gallery locks the moment you leave it.
- Turn on uninstall protection.
Do not forget the side entrances
- Camera roll from the camera app: the camera's thumbnail opens the last photo. Lock the camera app too if that matters.
- Image pickers: sending a photo from a chat app opens a picker that shows recent images. Lock the chat apps you care about.
- Screenshots and downloads show up in the gallery; the app lock covers them.
Combining with a hidden vault
For the few photos you never want in the gallery at all, move them to a vault app with a hidden folder; see hiding photos and videos from the gallery. Use the app lock for everything else.
Frequently asked questions
Does locking Google Photos stop backups?
No. Backups run in the background; the lock only affects opening the app on screen.
Can widgets still show my photos?
Photo widgets on the home screen are outside the app. Remove them if you lock the gallery for privacy.
Is the lock bypassed by "Open with"?
Opening an image from another app launches the gallery, which triggers the lock as usual.
