How to Set an Alarm If Someone Unplugs Your Charging Phone
A phone on a charger in a public place is a phone nobody is holding. Thieves know it, and a quiet unplug takes two seconds. A loud, unstoppable alarm changes the odds completely.
Why the built-in options fall short
Android has no unplug alarm. Google's Find My Device can ring a phone, but only after you notice it is gone and reach another device. Some anti-theft apps exist, yet many of them are either silent by default or easy to swipe away.
Set up an unplug siren
Battery Call includes an anti-theft unplug alarm. Arm it while charging in public; if the cable is pulled, the phone immediately starts a loud siren through a full-screen call that cannot be dismissed without your PIN or fingerprint. Even if the thief runs, the phone keeps screaming.
- Open Battery Call and set a PIN in the anti-theft settings. Your fingerprint can unlock it too.
- Plug in, then tap Arm.
- Unplugging now triggers the siren at full volume, regardless of the ringer setting.
- To disarm, unlock the alarm with your PIN or fingerprint before unplugging.
Make it effective
- Keep the screen locked while armed; the alarm works on top of the lock screen.
- Choose a siren tone rather than a pleasant ringtone, so people around you look.
- Allow the app to run without battery optimisation, otherwise Android could delay it.
- Test it once at home so you know exactly what happens.
An alarm is a deterrent, not a guarantee. Keep the phone in sight when you can, and make sure Find My Device is on so you can locate or wipe the phone if it does disappear.
Other situations it covers
The same alarm works at home when kids keep borrowing the charging phone, in a hotel room, or on a desk in a shared office. It is also handy for catching a loose cable: if the plug slips out at night, the alarm tells you before you wake up to an empty battery.
Frequently asked questions
Does the alarm sound if the phone is on silent?
Yes. It plays through the alarm channel at full volume and uses a full-screen interface that stays on top.
What if I forget the PIN?
Use your fingerprint or the device's biometric unlock, which the app accepts as an alternative.
Can the thief just power off the phone?
Turning off a locked phone normally requires unlocking it on modern Android versions, and the siren keeps going until then. Enable "require unlock to power off" in your phone's lock screen settings if it offers it.
