Low Battery Alerts You Can't Miss: Make Your Android Phone Call You

The low battery warning is a quiet notification at 15 percent that you dismiss while reading something else. An hour later the phone is dead in a taxi. The warning needs to be louder, earlier, and impossible to swipe away by accident.

What Android does by default

Android posts a notification at around 15 percent and again at 5 percent, and may offer to turn on Battery Saver. It is easy to miss and cannot be customised: no different level, no louder sound, no repeat. Some brands add a pop-up, but it disappears with a tap.

A low battery warning that rings

Battery Call turns the low battery moment into a phone call. Set the level, for example 30 percent, and when the battery drops to it the phone rings with a full-screen incoming-call screen and your chosen ringtone, until you answer. You can add a second, lower threshold as a last warning.

  1. Open Battery Call and turn on the low battery alert.
  2. Set the lower limit to the level that gives you enough time to find a charger.
  3. Pick a ringtone and vibration, and allow the app to ring over other apps.
  4. Answer the call when it comes, then plug in.

Pick the right level

  • 30 percent if you commute or travel and need a buffer to reach a charger.
  • 20 percent for everyday use; it is also the healthy lower limit for the battery.
  • 40 percent before long days out, so you can top up over lunch.

Make sure it gets through

Exclude the app from battery optimisation and allow autostart on phones that have that setting; both are needed for any alert app to run reliably. If you use Do Not Disturb, allow alarms. The app does not run in the background between alerts; Android wakes it when the battery level changes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set more than one low battery level?

Yes. Combine the lower limit with the scheduled charge reminder, or set the alert and Battery Saver at different levels.

Does it work when the screen is off?

Yes. The call lights the screen and rings like any incoming call.

Why did the alert not ring?

Almost always battery optimisation or an autostart setting. Allow the app in both places and test again.
