How to Keep Private Notes on Android Without Any Cloud Sync
Google Keep and Samsung Notes are great, and they sync everything to an account by default. For the handful of notes you would not want on a server, in a backup, or on the family tablet, you need a notebook that stays on the phone.
Why synced notes are the wrong place for secrets
A synced note exists on every signed-in device and in the provider's cloud. Shared accounts, leftover sign-ins on old phones and tablets, and account recovery by someone who knows you all become ways in. Encryption in transit does not help if the note is readable on a device you forgot about.
Notes that live inside a vault
ShareKeep Vault includes a private note editor. Notes are created, edited and stored inside the vault on this phone only, behind your PIN, next to the files you hide. There is no account, no sync and no server.
- Open ShareKeep Vault and unlock it with your PIN.
- Go to Notes and create one: a recovery code, a door code, a list you keep to yourself.
- Edit or delete notes whenever you like; they never leave the vault.
What belongs in a private note
- Backup and recovery codes for accounts.
- Door, locker and safe codes.
- Personal journal entries.
- Details you need offline, such as a document number, without keeping a photo of the document in the gallery.
For passwords you use every day, a proper password manager with autofill is still the better tool; a private note is for the few things you want nowhere online.
Keep a way back
Because there is no cloud, losing or resetting the phone loses the notes. For the handful that would hurt to lose, keep a written copy in a safe place.
Frequently asked questions
Can I export a note?
You can copy a note's text and share it deliberately; nothing is shared automatically.
Are the notes included in phone backups?
Whether app data is backed up depends on your phone's backup settings; the vault itself never syncs them anywhere.
Does it support formatting or attachments?
Notes are plain text by design, which keeps them small, searchable and simple. Attach files by adding them to the vault alongside the note.
