How to Take Quick Notes on Android Without Leaving the App You Are In
By the time you have left the video, found the notes app and opened a new note, the number is gone from your head. The note has to come to you, on top of whatever you are doing.
The built-in options
Samsung's pop-up view and Android's split screen can show a notes app next to another, but setting them up takes several gestures and halves the screen. Voice assistants can take a note, if you can say it out loud and the assistant hears it right.
A floating note that opens in one tap
Quick Floats puts a small draggable pill on the edge of your screen. Tap it and a compact toolbar expands with four tools, one of which is Quick Notes: a floating text editor that opens over the current app, takes your text, and tucks away again. Notes are saved in the app's built-in vault on the device.
- Install Quick Floats and allow it to display over other apps.
- Drag the pill to the edge where it is out of the way.
- While in any app, tap the pill, choose Notes, type, and close it.
- Find every note later in the app, to copy, share or delete.
Moments it saves
- A phone number or reference number read out during a call.
- A timestamp or quote while watching a lecture.
- Ingredients from a recipe video.
- An address from a chat before you open the maps app.
The rest of the pill
The same toolbar holds a camera for a quick background snap, an audio recorder for voice memos, and a volume booster for quiet videos; see recording voice memos from any screen. Everything captured stays in local storage; the app has no cloud.
Frequently asked questions
Does the floating pill stay over full-screen video?
Yes. It rests on the edge and expands only when you tap it, so it does not block the picture.
Can I share a note to another app?
Yes. Open it in the vault and use share, or copy the text.
Does it work on the lock screen?
No. Floating tools appear after unlocking, over your apps.
